The Eye of the Hurricane

A poem addresses a not-so-coy mistress.

An excerpt:

Swaying silently, the tree just beyond the sidewalk

And just this side of the white glowing sky

Admits flickers of light that disturb my eyes.

Sitting silently, I ponder the red glowing end of my cigarette.

My tired eyes close, seeking darkness

Where my mind's eye can see your body's white silhouette

And then, closer, your smile and your smiling eyes.

I think it has been much too long

Though it was just last night.
